Brooks Center for the Performing Arts
"Nestled on the campus of Clemson University, the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts is a vibrant performing arts hub currently celebrating its 30th season. The Brooks Center, under the direction of Executive Director Janice Crews, is committed to bringing world-class performances to the Clemson community, featuring national and international artists at affordable prices.
The Brooks Center offers a diverse programming lineup, showcasing a rich tapestry of performances ranging from renowned classical and jazz musicians to ballet dancers and Broadway musicals. Upcoming performances in its 30th season include a cappella group Chanticleer, New Orleans Songbook: A Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents Production, the Vitamin String Quartet playing the music of Bridgerton and Taylor Swift, and much more.
The Brooks Center is also home to the Clemson University Department of Performing Arts, which provides a dynamic undergraduate experience and boasts more than 20 student ensembles. Crews strives to book shows that will not only be great experiences for the public, but also meaningful to students and their curriculum.
Throughout its regular season, the Brooks Center offers an educational outreach series, the Bill and Donna Eskridge Tri-ART series, for area schools and homeschools. Annually, the series presents interactive morning performances by distinguished musicians, singers, theater companies and Clemson student ensembles.
“SC Public Radio brings immense cultural and educational value to our state and provides the soundtrack to our daily lives,” says Crews. “Some of my favorite programs are Sonatas and Soundscapes, Fresh Air and my all-time favorite is Performance Today. That is especially meaningful to me now in my current role because the Brooks Center has been a regular contributor to the program content of Performance Today for many years.”
In fact, over the past 21 years, recordings of admission-free concerts in the Brooks Center’s Lillian and Robert Utsey Chamber Music Series have been broadcast on Performance Today a total of 111 times, reaching almost 29 million listeners. These frequent broadcasts bring the Brooks Center into the national spotlight for both the quality of its programs and the expertise of its audio recording team.
The Brooks Center’s impact is made possible by dedicated sponsors and a large patron society, the Friends of the Brooks Center."
