Read Freely Fest

Book lovers, lifelong learners and cultural enthusiasts will gather in Columbia, South Carolina this spring for the inaugural Read Freely Fest. Hosted by Richland Library and the Richland Library Friends and Foundation, the festival will feature bestselling author talks, panels with emerging voices, performances and interactive activities.

The 2025 lineup features an incredible mix of celebrated authors, including Brendan Slocumb, the bestselling author and musician whose novels bring music to life; DéLana Dameron, a South Carolina poet and Reese’s Book Club pick known for her evocative explorations of family and identity; Mike Curato, an award-winning illustrator and graphic novelist celebrated for his heartfelt storytelling; Abbot Kahler (also known as Karen Abbott), a historian and author of gripping nonfiction; and Patti Callahan Henry, a beloved writer of historical and contemporary fiction.

“Read Freely Fest offers a space to hear from authors with a wide variety of voices and stories,” says Lee Snelgrove, Arts and Culture Manager at Richland Library. “SCETV and SC Public Radio do this through TV and radio, and we do it through books. Supporting their programming was a natural fit, as we both aim to bring fresh perspectives and encourage important conversations.”

Read Freely Fest offers a place for readers and writers to connect, offering attendees a chance to meet their favorite offer or discover a new read.

Read Freely Fest will take place Friday–Sunday, March 28–30, at Richland Library Main in downtown Columbia.
