The first episode of SCETV’s latest show, By The River, features one of The Palmetto State’s most beloved authors.
Mary Alice Monroe, author of The Beach House series, shares some of her neighbors’ greatest passions: a love for the rich beauty found in the Lowcountry.
One of the biggest topics Monroe discusses on By The River is how she incorporates a conservation topic in her storytelling, with hopes she educates the readers along the way. She’s written about sea turtle protection and the harms of drinking straws in the ocean. Monroe said she latches onto a conservation issue and then writes the story around it.
What viewers won’t see on By the River is all the time Monroe spent with the USCB students who worked as the production crew on the show. Monroe took questions, gave advice and signed books.
By The River, which is a collaboration project between SCETV and USCB airs each Thursday at 8pm.
