Nile Valley Conference, Part 8 - Dr. Charles S. Finch (1985) | For The People

This is the third part of the Dr. Charles S. Finch Interview and eighth installment of the For The People Nile Valley Conference Series.  

This episode begins with multiple images of Egyptian artifacts following, Dr. Finch is asked to discuss another episode from the gospels which deals with the deaf and dumb man in the Bible book of Mark. 

Dr. Charles S. Finch then goes on to mention Egyptian origin of a sneeze, explaining the “expelling of the breath of life.” Dr. Finch then proceeds to draw connections and break down the words Messiah, Jehovah, and Yahweh. Dr. Charles S. Finch then explains the origin of the word Christ, stating its Greek origin. 

Dr. Finch also provides a chart which features many different words in both the Egyptian and Greek languages. He does this to show the similarities between the languages and establishes a “direct connection between a word and a concept.”

SIDE NOTES

Dr. Charles S. Finch graduated from Yale University in 1971 and Jefferson Medical College in 1976. He later completed his family medicine residency at the University of California Irvine Medical Center in 1979. 

During the time of his interview Dr. Finch was an assistant professor at the Morehouse school of medicine in Atlanta, GA. He is a former instructor of African history and mathematics at the Commonwealth school in Boston, MA. Dr. Finch is also a board-certified family physician.
