South Carolina ETV continues our work supporting workforce development with partnerships and resources.

Last month, SCETV kicked off our celebration of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month with an exciting day of professional development and student engagement, CTE Revolution: Where Passion Meets Profession. The day provided great inspiration for our continuing work around workforce development!

Moving forward, catch up now on our recent and new resources including webinars, videos, engagement opportunities, and career video games!

Webinars:

  • If you missed our Afterschool with ETV (AWE) webinar sessions on Personal Finance Gamification last month, no worries. Access a recording via our PD at Home series on our ETV LEARN platform; you can even earn a certificate of participation. Presented by Sarah Ostergaard, Director of Teacher Programs at The South Carolina Council on Economic Education, the sessions helped educators learn how to use games to turn personal finance lessons  - important for building students' financial literacy and motivating smart money habits - into exciting, hands-on experiences and readiness for the workforce.

  • This month, on Thursday, March 20, we dig deeper into workforce development with two live AWE sessions presented by Demeterius Smith, CDP, Apprenticeship Consultant and Training Development Manager with Apprenticeship Carolina of the SC Technical College System. His presentation, Workforce Guiding Light, will explore multiple pathways to career success including registered apprenticeships, entrepreneurship, internships, and more. It explores how there can be many roads to the same destination for the same individual, but sometimes those roads are unknown to students, parents, and even educators. Learn more and register to attend one of these two free sessions.

Videos:

  • H is for Hiring
Hi is for Hiring logoPremiering February 23 and now available for streaming, this program takes viewers inside hospitals and technical education programs to highlight real-world training opportunities and careers that extend beyond traditional medical roles. Several other related video 'extras' are available too on our H is for Hiring webpage.

Created in partnership with the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA), H is for Hiring is part of a broader initiative between SCETV and the SCHA to connect students and job seekers with in-demand healthcare careers. Last fall, SCETV and the SCHA launched the "Every Role Counts" campaign which highlights key healthcare careers essential to patient care.

  • Every Role Counts
On SCETV’s KnowItAll website, in the Every Role Counts series, students and job seekers can learn about Surgical Technologists and Supply Chain Logistics. Be sure to also explore the 'Related Collections' cited below the videos.

Engagement Opportunities:

Offer students an immersive, virtual Operating Room 360 Tour and generate interest with downloadable pop-up banners designed for schools, conferences and other community events. These resources, also created in partnership between SCETV and the SCHA, are available on our Every Role Counts page

Career Video Games:

Play with a "hire" purpose, South Carolina! SCETV has partnered with EdTech Digest's award-winning Skillionaire Games to provide educational gamification to support SC industries. Students can play free career video games which allow them a fun and engaging way to “try on” different careers in SC's most in-demand industries, and to discover local pathways, employers and opportunities to pursue the ones they love, locally!

The games can be played online or downloaded to an Apple or Android device via the new resource pages below.
