South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) is excited to announce the newest installment of SCETV Safe Space, an award-winning program dedicated to youth mental health. This new episode will focus on teen stress and premiere on Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. on ETV-HD. Viewers can also watch the broadcast on the SCETV website, YouTube channel or Facebook page.
American teenagers are so stressed that the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Children’s Hospital Association declared a national state of emergency in children’s mental health. SCETV Safe Space offers an open forum to discuss sensitive topics such as peer pressure, cyberbullying, family conflict and self-esteem.
With the exquisite Charleston Harbor in the background, show host, entrepreneur and actor Brittney Brackett facilitates conversations between students and parents from the Charleston County School District and mental health professionals. Author of My Safe Place, a mindfulness activity book for kids, Brackett visits bookstores, churches, and schools for sensory and mindfulness workshops to empower kids with affirmations. She is also a past correspondent for SCETV'S Palmetto Scene and host of SCETV’s traveling South Carolina food show Backroad Bites.
In addition to public service announcements and a social media campaign, SCETV Safe Space has tackled topics such as building healthy relationships and social media with the goal of engaging South Carolina’s youth in conversations with their caregivers and peers. Recently, the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) honored SCETV Safe Space with two 2024 Public Media awards for excellence in community engagement and social media.
