Greenville Technical College

Greenville Technical College (GTC) works to transform lives through education, a mission that aligns with SCETV’s effort to inform and connect, instilling the joy of learning in those they touch.

Many students juggle college courses with the demands of work and family life. For busy students, online learning is sometimes the best way to fit everything in.

To ensure that the college maintains excellence while delivering flexibility, GTC has redesigned course content, joining Quality Matters, an international leader for quality assurance in online and innovative digital teaching and learning environments. Membership provides access to a comprehensive, research-supported process to design and develop accessible, engaging online courses.

GTC has also converted online courses to Blackboard Learn Ultra. This move has provided consistency in course design, with clean layouts and mobile-friendly functionality. The result is improved student retention, success and satisfaction.

Efforts to improve online offerings led to last year’s inclusion on Newsweek’s list of top online colleges, with GTC ranked 97th in the nation. While that ranking was encouraging, the college continued improvement efforts. This year, GTC rose significantly, named #1 in the state and #21 in the nation based on a survey of 9,000 online learners and research about the institutions.

“Our efforts to transform lives mean that we continually evaluate the education we deliver, determining how we can make it better. We’re proud that the work of our faculty and staff has resulted in a strong national ranking,” said Dr. Larry Miller, vice president of Learning and Workforce Development.

“For us, however, the bottom line is student success. We will continue to enhance online courses so that our student outcomes can improve even further.”
