South Carolina ETV (SCETV) will host its next Community Forum on Education on March 25 at 6 p.m. at Southside High School in Greenville. The public is invited to attend in-person or engage virtually during the livestreamed event. This event, themed "Funding Our Future: The Dollars, Decisions and Partnerships that Drive Education," will bring together leaders, educators, students and community members to engage in a discussion on school finance and innovative solutions for enhancing student and school performance.
Each Community Forum on Education is structured to maximize community engagement and impact. The first half of the event focuses on key predetermined topics that resonate with the educational needs of South Carolina’s communities. The conversation is led by a dynamic panel featuring state and local education leaders, thought leaders, students and community members, offering insights that lay the groundwork for deeper discussions. The panel includes:
- Dr. Matthew Lavery, Deputy Director, SC Education Oversight Committee
- Dr. Edward Anderson, Executive Director, On Track Greenville at United Way of Greenville County
- Dorothy Dowe, Member, Greenville City Council
- Dr. Gerrick Hampton, Associate Director for Student Affairs, SC Commission on Higher Education
The second half of the forum opens the floor to the audience, giving participants the opportunity to share their experiences, ideas and solutions in real-time allowing parents, teachers, students and community leaders the ability to explore collaborative strategies to build stronger educational outcomes.
Guiding the discussion is Dr. Rénard Harris, host of SC Public Radio’s Teachable Moments. Dr. Harris is an Associate Professor of Management in the School of Business at the College of Charleston. He holds an Ed.D. in teacher education. Since his time at the College of Charleston and several years prior, Dr. Harris has explored multicultural education, storytelling, cultural relevance and leadership. He is often called upon to serve as a keynote speaker and consultant for businesses and educational institutions.
Additionally, Jada M. Samuel, Miss South Carolina 2023 and a Greenville native, will serve as the event’s social media correspondent.
Members of the public are invited to attend in-person at Southside High School, located at 6630 Frontage Rd. Greenville, SC 29605. For those unable to attend in-person, the forum will be livestreamed on the SCETV website and Facebook page, where virtual attendees can submit questions for the panel.
The first forum titled “The “Cellular” Level: On Cell Phone Policies, Student Behavior, and Parent Teacher Engagement” was held in October 2024 at Southside Middle School in Effingham and is available to view online.
