Ancient Egyptian Mummified Cat Case | Curiosity Trek!

Join Andrew as he takes viewers to look at a peculiar item in the Dr. Gabriel Manigault Collection at the Charleston Museum: a bronze cat case from the Ptolemaic period which once contained a mummified cat! In Ancient Egypt, humans and animals alike were carefully prepared for the afterlife through the process of mummification. Animals in Ancient Egypt were not just viewed as pets... They were revered and well taken care of. This cat statue is one of many examples of Egyptians’ devotion to their animal companions!

Curator of Archaeology John Fisher joins Andrew to dig up the history behind this bronze cat statue!
