The 2022 Telehealth State Champion award was presented to Meera Narasimhan, M.D., DFAPA, during the 10th Annual Telehealth Summit of South Carolina held in November at the Charleston Gaillard Center.
Dr. Narasimhan is a professor and chair in the Department of Neuropsychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia. She serves as senior medical director for Behavioral Health, Prisma Health -Midlands and as the special advisor to UofSC President for Health Innovations. She also serves on faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston.
A long-time advocate for advancing telehealth in South Carolina, Dr. Narasimhan is known for her vision and leadership in guiding other medical professionals as they establish telehealth services for patients who live in communities that lack access to psychiatry care.
“Dr. Narasimhan has the perfect personality and background to advance telehealth in our state, and let me say telehealth anywhere,” said Harris Pastides, Ph.D., M.P.H., President Emeritus at the University of South Carolina and the former Dean of Arnold School of Health. “She’s a collaborative spirit; she’s dedicated to taking care of people who may not have direct access (to healthcare).”
