In April of 2024, when a weekend fire destroyed Prisma Health’s Ferlauto Center for Complex Pediatric Care, patients were still able to be seen on the following Monday thanks in large part to telehealth.
“Right after the fire telehealth was instrumental,” said Dr. Arun Lakshman Singh, medical director for the Division of Pediatric Supportive (Palliative) Care for Prisma Health. “We had to triage some of our patients to virtual visits to avoid cancelling and rescheduling appointments that had otherwise been on the books for months ahead of time.”
The Ferlauto Center for Complex Pediatric Care is the only facility of its kind in the Upstate and serves as a “medical home” for medically complex children.
