The South Carolina State Library recently announced South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) as a winner of a 2024 Notable State Documents award for AfterActionShow.org. The website promotes After Action, an SCETV program distributed to PBS stations nationwide, revealing the experiences of veterans from across the country.

Hosted by Air Force combat veteran Stacy Pearsall, After Action offers an inside look at the experiences of veterans from across the country, featuring candid conversations about life before, during and after service. By sharing her own struggles with reintegrating into civilian life, Pearsall encourages fellow veterans to delve deeper into their personal stories, fostering a greater understanding and appreciation for those who have served.

After Action premiered in 2022 and has aired two seasons with a total of 14 episodes. Produced by SCETV, the program was broadcast on PBS stations across the country. In addition to AfterActionShow.org, as a PBS-distributed series, After Action is available for streaming on the PBS app, PBS Amazon Prime and on PBS.org.

Nominations for the Notable Documents Awards were submitted throughout the year, with final candidates being judged by a panel of librarians and state employees. Candidates were judged based on their designs, writing styles and breadth of information. The judges chose a unique group of twelve documents and websites for recognition.

The After Action website was chosen to receive the award for its focus on veteran resources and connection to SCETV’s content with stations across the country. In addition to the episodes, the website provides valuable information on featured topics to enhance viewer engagement. The resources tab also offers helpful tools for locating veterans’ programs and support services.

Government documents come in a variety of formats and winning categories, including state agency monographs, serials and websites or apps. Winners of the South Carolina Notable State Documents award are announced in honor of Freedom of Information Day, which occurs annually on March 16. These noteworthy publications call attention to the most informative documents released by state agencies in 2024. Awards will be presented to the winning agencies and authors during a ceremony at the South Carolina State Library on March 19.
