Overdose deaths in South Carolina dropped in 2023, but deaths from drug cocktails are rising

In 2023, South Carolina saw its first year-to-year decline in overdose deaths since 2014. Statewide, overdose deaths fell by 6.1% from 2022, according to a report released Tuesday by the state Department of Public Health (DPH).
Counties like Chesterfield are ramping up their efforts to head off warm-weather spikes in overdose deaths. In 2023, overdose deaths were highest in the state in March, May, and June.

Much of the Table Rock Complex fires are now contained; charges imminent

On Monday afternoon, Russell Hubright, a spokesman for the South Carolina Forestry Commission, confirmed that 12,590 acres of woodlands at Table Rock Mountain had burned since a fire began there on March 21.
Endless blue skies and dry air gave way Monday to rainclouds over Table Rock Mountain and Persimmon Ridge. Emergency crews have battled ideal conditions for a major fire since Mach 21.

Severe weather threat increases for Monday across South Carolina

A line of storms will push through South Carolina on Monday. The threat for severe storms has increased to 'enhanced,' and now we forecast numerous severe storms that can produce damaging winds of at least 70 mph, large hail, and a few strong tornadoes (at least EF 2).
