South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) continues to celebrate the legacy of Rudy Mancke, NatureScene and NatureNotes host, naturalist and teacher.
Rudy Mancke, who passed away on Nov. 7 at the age of 78, became a beloved figure in South Carolina and beyond through his groundbreaking work as the host of the nationally distributed television show NatureScene and SC Public Radio's NatureNotes. NatureScene, co-created with Beryl Dakers, premiered in 1978 and continued for 25 years, achieving national recognition for its thoughtful approach to exploring the Natural world.
Thanks to treasures found within the ETV tape vault we can view some of the original NatureScene shows that aired from 1978 to 1982 hosted by Rudy Mancke and Beryl Dakers.
Whether it is walking in the Piedmont in the winter, exploring Poinsett State Park in early spring, summer in the Lowcountry or autumn in the mountains, Rudy's observations teach us much about the ecology of our beautiful state. Come join us as we revisit early NatureScene through the seasons. No coat or sunscreen required.
