South Carolina ETV (SCETV), in partnership with Bible Way Church of Atlas Road, have announced a special premiere screening event, Lift Every Voice in the Loop, celebrating the debut of Henry Louis Gates, Jr.’s documentary Gospel and the new PBS KIDS' animated series Lyla in the Loop.
This family-friendly event invites all ages to join on Wednesday, Feb. 7 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Bible Way Church of Atlas Road located at 2440 Atlas Road in Columbia. Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy live performances from the Bible Way Church Choir, Francis Marion University Young, Gifted and Blessed Gospel Choir, St. Martin De Porres School Children’s Choir and Kristen JoyAnn Jamison.
Throughout the evening, video clips from Gospel will be shown, offering a glimpse into the captivating documentary exploring the rich history and cultural significance of gospel music.
Additionally, clips from Lyla in the Loop will be showcased in the children's area for ages 4-8 along with activities inspired by the show, providing young viewers with an entertaining and educational experience.
Jamal Bates, host of the nationally syndicated radio show The Jamal Bates Morning Show on WFMV 96.1fm, 107.1fm and 620am, and host of Middays with Jamal Bates on Rhythm & Praise 94.1fm in Fort Wayne, Indiana, will co-emcee the event alongside Jeffrey Lampkin. Lampkin is the host of the renowned Sunday Morning Gospel with Jeffrey Lampkin, currently the number one Sunday morning radio show airing weekly from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on 101.3 The Big DM.
Gospel explores the rich history of Black spirituality through sermon and song. Executive Producer, Writer and Host Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. examines the origin of Black gospel music, which blended the sacred spirituals with the blues tradition.
Lyla in the Loop follows Lyla, a dynamic seven-year-old girl, who lives in a big city with her close-knit family, fantastical blue sidekick Stu, and a host of relatable and quirky characters in her community. These characters use creative and strategic problem-solving and critical thinking skills to address a range of everyday problems together.
This screening event is free and open to the public. Food will be available to purchase onsite from Jeffrey Lampkin’s Country Boy Kitchen from 4:30 p.m. – 6 p.m.
