The 2024 Telehealth State Champion award was presented to Dr. Patrick Cawley during the 12th Annual Telehealth Summit of South Carolina held last month in Hilton Head. Dr. Cawley is chief executive officer of the Medical University of South Carolina.
This award recognizes an individual champion in the areas of clinical care, education, policy or IT support. The purpose of the state champion award is to recognize individuals who have overcome significant barriers or developed revolutionary processes that benefit the communities they serve in South Carolina.
Known as an innovative, thoughtful leader, Dr. Cawley secured initial funding and recurring funding to support what became the MUSC Telehealth Center and the state’s South Carolina Telehealth Alliance.
“Both of these creations helped propel South Carolina to become one of the leading states in the nation in the use of telehealth,” said John Magill, former director of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health.
Palmetto Care Connections is the host of the Annual Telehealth Summit of South Carolina. The Telehealth Summit brings together leaders and professionals interested in utilizing telehealth to increase access to health care.
