Georgia O’Keefe: A Woman on Paper

Artist Georgia O'Keeffe has been called the "Mother of American Modernism," well-known for her flowing, colorful works depicting flowers and plants, dramatic cityscapes and Southwestern landscapes. The half-hour documentary GEORGIA O'KEEFFE: A WOMAN ON PAPER highlights the artist's career while focusing on the little-known story of O'Keeffe's time spent in Columbia, S.C. as an art instructor at Columbia College. While teaching at the college in the fall of 1915 and the spring of 1916, O'Keeffe found her voice with a series of innovative black and white abstract charcoal drawings that represented a radical break with tradition and led her art-and her career-in a new direction. Collectively titled "Specials," the charcoal drawings made O'Keeffe one of the very first American artists to practice pure abstraction, and they would go on to define and establish her career as one of the country's leading artists.

Story of Queen Victoria

A race from Germany to England marks a dramatic beginning to Queen Victoria's life. Her birth at Kensington Palace secures her claim to the throne, but a strict upbringing is designed by her mother and advisor to keep her in line. A remarkable book held at Kensington Palace reveals that the young Victoria had to account several times a day whether she was good or, as she wrote one day, "very, very, very naughty". Fascinating archives and diaries reveal an emboldened 16 year-old queen-to-be who finds the inner strength to stand up for herself, do things her way, and eventually rule alone. It's not all work for the teenage Queen as she finds time between affairs of state to tend to her other passions; eating, dancing and pets. She becomes the focus of royal matchmaking when her cousin Albert pays her a visit that leads to love. Victoria's diaries also shows her naivety as a young queen when she turns Buckingham Palace into a hotbed for scandal with pregnancy accusations against a Lady-in-waiting. The fallout forces the young Victoria to make the decision to propose to Prince Albert and share ruling duties - a decision that would shape the rest of her life.
