SCETV program unveils the impact of disparities during COVID-19 pandemic

South Carolina ETV and Public Radio (SCETV) has released a new program, offering insights into the complex challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and its disproportionate impact on communities of color. Moderated by CNN Anchor and Chief National Correspondent John King, Exposing Disparity: COVID-19's Lasting Impacts will premiere on Sept. 7 at 8:30 p.m. on ETV-HD and be distributed to public television stations across the U.S. this fall.

The COVID-19 pandemic underscored existing disparities in our society, affecting people of color at a significantly higher rate than their white counterparts. Mixed messages in the public health response further complicated efforts to address these disparities effectively. Exposing Disparity: COVID-19's Lasting Impacts brings together a panel of esteemed experts from across the country to delve into the critical issues surrounding health disparities, misinformation, social determinants of health and preparedness for future pandemics.

John King, CNN Anchor and Chief National Correspondent, leads the conversation as the moderator of Exposing Disparity: COVID-19's Lasting Impacts. With a career marked by insightful reporting and in-depth analysis, King guides the panelists and viewers through the intricate landscape of COVID-19's lasting impacts on marginalized communities.

The panel features a lineup of experts, each bringing a unique perspective to the discussion:

  • Dr. Sandra Lindsay: Vice President of Public Health Advocacy, Northwell Health, Queens, New York.
  • Dr. Jeannette Kowalik: Public Health Consultant, Jael Solutions Consulting Services, LLC; Faculty at Baylor University’s MPH program and the Morehouse School of Medicine.
  • Dr. Loretta Christensen: Chief Medical Officer of the Indian Health Service, an enrolled member of the Navajo Tribe.
  • Dr. Linda Bell: State Epidemiologist and Director of the Bureau of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control, South Carolina Department of Health and Environment Control.
  • Arnold Alier Martinez: Director of the Bureau of Public Health Preparedness, South Carolina Department of Health and Environment Control.
