Founded in 1711, Beaufort is South Carolina's second oldest city. Located on Port Royal Island, Beaufort is actually made up of 68 islands. At high tide, the town is as much water as it is land.
With its proximity to the ocean, it’s no surprise the city is known for its delicious seafood. The Lowcountry staple of Frogmore Stew originated in the nearby fishing community on St. Helena Island.
One of the most popular attractions in Beaufort is the Hunting Island State Park, which offers visitors a chance to explore the natural beauty of the area. The park features miles of pristine beaches, hiking trails, and a lighthouse that offers stunning views of the coastline.
Additionally, Beaufort is home to ETV Lowcountry where series like By The River that interview Southern authors is filmed.
