Marlena Smalls and The Hallelujah Singers are well known for bringing audiences Gullah and West African culture through song and storytelling performances. Dr. Marlena Smalls founded The Hallelujah Singers in 1990. Though she was born and raised in Ohio, Smalls' parents hailed from the South Carolina Sea islands. Determined to preserve the Gullah culture, Dr. Smalls not only founded the sensational singing group, but also founded the Gullah Festival in Beaufort, SC in 1985.
In the Hallelujah Christmas Special, sit back and relax as The Hallelujah Singers bring to you plantation melodies, traditional gospel, and traditional carols.
