This sparkling episode of Art's the Thing! opens with Marian McPartland playing Mercer Ellington's "Things Ain't What They Used To Be."
Host Beryl Dakers congratulates Marian and Piano Jazz for winning the coveted Peabody Award. Marian stated that she was delighted and thrilled about winning the award and noted that since then, Piano Jazz had also won a Gold Medal from the International Radio Festival of New York.
Marian noted that she felt that jazz would always be a minority music, as people have to know when to find it on the radio and that Piano Jazz offers a place for them to find their music.
Jazz music comprises many styles and Marian observed that she had been listening and absorbing the styles for so long, that she felt comfortable moving among the styles of her guests on Piano Jazz.
While women have always been a part of jazz, she said that she was glad to see more female jazz musicians coming into their own.
Marian McPartland described her mission to bring jazz music to young children and how open they are to the new experiences.
The program concludes with Marian talking about her plans to do more composing in the future.
