COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina Public Radio (SCPR) this weekend received five first-place awards – four from the Radio Television Digital News Association of the Carolinas (RTDNAC) and one from the Associated Press (AP). Those two organizations hosted a joint convention and luncheon at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. on Saturday, October 26 to announce and recognize all of this year’s awards recipients.
From the RTDNAC, SCPR received a first-place award in the Breaking News category for coverage of Hurricane Florence; a first-place award in the Entertainment category for Tut Underwood’s piece entitled, “Re-Release of ‘Uncle Walt’s Band’ Celebrates Influential South Carolina Vocal Trio”; a first-place award in the Health-Medicine category for Thelisha Eaddy’s piece entitled, “Greer Parent Advocates for Infant Vaccinations, Wins National Award”; and a first-place award in the Series category for Victoria Hansen’s “Pondering Plastic: Wildlife, Bans & Trash” series.
From the AP, SCPR received a first-place award for Outstanding News Operation (South Carolina), as well as a second-place award in the Multimedia Package category for Scott Morgan’s piece entitled, “How Social Media (and Coffee) are Changing Deaf Culture in South Carolina.”
