A new school-based telehealth program in Darlington County will expand students’ access to physicians and mental health specialists, superintendent Tim Newman said.
The program, which starts this week, is the first of its kind in the Pee Dee region. Four schools will begin using live video technology to connect students to providers while at school.
Through a cart in the school nurse’s office, students can be assessed virtually by practitioners at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. The school district is also partnering with the state Department of Mental Health to give students access to specialty care in school.
