This week marks the halfway point of my internship at ETV. Where does the time go?
This week, I worked on a bunch of miscellaneous smaller projects, including updating the runoff election results, writing online stories, copyediting the runoff debate transcription and filming This Week In South Carolina. This week's show was special, as it was the last one before the hiatus. It will resume shooting in September, but by this time I will have finished my internship and will be back in classes at USC for my last year of my undergraduate.
One of my favorite parts of this week was contributing directly to the South Carolina Lede podcast. I drafted the write-up for "Quorum Call," the four-part news brief at the introduction of each podcast. Although I've been sitting in on the podcast for the past couple of episodes, it felt good to create something that would make it into the show, even though it was something as small as writing news briefs. You can listen to the episode online at South Carolina Public Radio, download from Apple Podcasts, or access from the NPR One app, which you can download here.
Another highlight of the week was getting a tour of the tape vault from my friend and fellow intern, Alissa. She works for South Carolina Public Radio and visits the vault often. Visiting this space is part of her average workday, but I had no idea that it even existed. I was so impressed by the seemingly countless rows full of archived material. It made me curious as to what other parts of ETV I haven't had the chance to explore yet.
