Are you ready for Winter? This week marks Winter Weather Preparedness Week for South Carolina. This is a week dedicated to teaching and reminding South Carolinians of the various alerts issued regarding winter weather conditions, how to prepare, and what to do if hazardous winter conditions occur.

SC House speaker easily defeats Freedom Caucus challenger

Alright, here's what happened today at the S.C. Statehouse, starting with an effort by the House Freedom Caucus. As background: 123 of the 124-member South Carolina House of Representatives (there's one vacancy) were sworn in today for the 126th General Assembly. It was Day One of the lower chamber's organizational session. Day Two starts at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The Senate will start their organizational session at noon Wednesday. We're not expecting a lot of surprises in the upper chamber.

Lowcountry boater spots first North Atlantic right whale calf this season

It’s baby season for North Atlantic right whales and already researchers have confirmed a calf spotted by a boater near the coast of Cape Romaine, S.C. just before Thanksgiving is the first.
19-year-old right whale named ‘Black Heart, whose had at least one calf is recent years, was spotted off the coast of North Carolina on Nov. 20, 2024. Days later, a Lowcountry boater spotted an unidentified calf and mother near Cape Romaine, S.C.
