South Carolina is eighth in the nation for the prevalence of diabetes and it's the seventh leading cause of death in the state. According to the American Diabetes Association, 530,000 people in South Carolina had diabetes in 2022. That means approximately 13% of the state's adult population and more than 35,000 people statewide are diagnosed with the disease each year.
A Touch of Sugar introduces five diabetic patients, two of whom are amputees. Their stories put a human face on the issues, as they share their struggle to control their disease and celebrate their successes.
IMPACT South Carolina brings attention to serious issues affecting the people of our state. In addition to the documentaries we will host televised forums on Palmetto Perspectives in which experts and community members discuss the topic featured in the film.
