Remembering Nathalie Dupree | ETV Classics

Nathalie Dupree (December 23, 1939 – January 13, 2025) was an American author, chef, and cooking show host whose work focused on teaching her audience American Southern cuisine and giving them control of their own kitchens. Nathalie was enthusiastic about teaching, and she realized that writing cookbooks was a way to reach and teach new audiences.

In this episode of the series A Literary Tour of South Carolina (2008), Nathalie talks about her journey to find a career that would make the world a better place, one in which she could earn a living, and about which she was passionate.

Finding her way at the famed Cordon Bleu cooking school in London, Nathalie received advice from Julia Child urging her to open a cooking school. In this video, Nathalie talks about the trial and error of learning to write cookbooks and covers everything from knowing your audience, testing each and every recipe after it has been written, and the ins and outs of copyright, citations, head notes, bibliographies, and always giving credit where it is due.

In this "something extra" from the 2020 SCETV Production of By The River, Holly Jackson joins James Beard Award-winning author and chef, Nathalie Dupree, author of Nathalie Dupree’s Favorite Stories & Recipes, to get a sneak peek at some of the recollections and favorite recipes from her 14th cookbook.
