For many across South Carolina, 2020 has been anything but smooth. From the spread of COVID-19 to the ongoing fight for racial justice, we are living in challenging, uncertain times. Throughout all of this adversity, however, one thing has remained constant – SCETV’s dedication and service to the people of this state.
Albert Einstein once said, “Adversity introduces a man to himself.” Through the first eight months of this year, Team SCETV has been dealt many adverse circumstances. Yet, time and time again, our remarkable team has overcome challenges through innovation and perseverance.
When in-person learning was cancelled for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, our Education team worked tirelessly to pull together and broadcast 10 hours of curriculum-based programming each weekday. When large gatherings were banned across the state, our team found a way to produce audience engagement-focused programs, with virtual instead of studio audiences. And, when state leaders and sister agencies needed help disseminating important information, our News and Public Affairs team not only stepped up to the plate, they knocked it out of the park.
All this has been accomplished with most of our staff working remotely from makeshift home offices. For any that wonder about the relevance of public media in the 21st century, look no further than your public media source in South Carolina. I could not be prouder to lead this exceptional group of professionals, and I look forward to seeing all they’ll achieve in the final third of 2020.
