Educators and the general public are invited to join us for a free virtual workshop on August 5 focusing on the social and emotional skills necessary to cope with these uncertain times.
SCETV and the Social Emotional Learning Alliance for South Carolina are excited to present an interactive webinar with Marc Brackett, Ph.D., founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and a professor in the Child Study Center at Yale University.
The two-hour virtual motivational keynote presentation and workshop will feature conversations about Brackett’s book titled, "Permission to Feel: The Power of Emotional Intelligence to Achieve Well-Being and Success.
Marc’s research focuses on the role of emotional intelligence in learning, decision making, creativity, relationships, health, and performance. He is the lead developer of RULER, a Pre-K to high school evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning that has been adopted by over 2,500 schools across the globe.

The agenda is outlined as follows:
Part I: Permission to Feel: The Power of Emotional Intelligence to Achieve Well-Being and Success
Emotions influence learning, decision making, relationships, physical and mental health, creativity, and performance. But it’s our wise use of emotion that’s especially important. In this keynote, Dr. Brackett will (1) describe recent large-scale studies on the emotional lives of children and adults, (2) share his Center’s model of emotional intelligence, (3) describe RULER, the systemic, evidence-based approach to social and emotional learning developed at Yale that has been adopted by over 2,500 schools across the globe and (4) teach participants tools to develop emotional intelligence to enhance personal and professional success.
Part 2: WORKSHOP: Strategies for Healthy Emotion Regulation During Uncertain Times
Have you been riding a roller coaster of emotions lately? You are not alone. In this presentation, Dr. Brackett will share strategies that can help make the ride a little smoother. Do not miss this interactive session where you will learn research-based strategies to support your own and your children’s well-being, healthy decision making, relationship quality, and performance during these challenging times. A particular focus will be on culturally responsive strategies to manage anxiety and stress.
