This week was spent mostly hiding behind a computer placing the final touches on my Made Here, Excellent Extracts piece, though we were able to escape the office for a few hours to film a new addition to Made Here, a digital series that explores small businesses in South Carolina.
After what has seemed like a lifetime, my piece finally is done. A small handful of technical difficulties kept the process interesting. Once the story was put together, transitions were added, and audio levels were tweaked one last time. The most time was spent color correcting and adding music. Because the interview was conducted in front of a window, and the b-roll was gathered across the room, the interview ended up having a more blue tint than the b-roll. Lastly, the background music was selected and tweaked to fade in and out with the dialogue.
Now that this story is complete, I’m excited to go out next week to film my second installment for Made Here. Not only will I be able to better prepare for the interview, but hopefully, the story will be able to come together more quickly, now that I have more experience. Additionally, it helps to watch my supervisor film an interview for the series. Going out and seeing the types of questions she asks, and the footage she records helps me to gauge what I will need to get for my stories.
There were more steps to putting the story together then I anticipated, but luckily, now that I have one under my belt, I will be able to do more on my own. Fingers crossed that by the end of the summer I will be able to produce these rather rapidly.
Now that week five is over, I am preparing for appointments that are already set up, and looking for more stories to cover.
