Week 10 marks the official completion of my summer internship with SCETV. During this week, I was able to finish up my last video project about first-generation college students here in South Carolina. The video has come a long way and I’m looking forward to sharing it online. I’m proud of my last project because I tried a lot of different editing tricks that I’ve never used before in my videos. Thanks to the feedback and pointers I received from my supervisor, I was able to bring my story idea to life.
This last project has definitely taught me a big lesson, especially as a journalist. Working on the first-generation college student piece has further emphasized the importance of research. Even after I interviewed my subjects, I had to keep researching, so I could stay up-to-date with the latest information on college students.
The importance of in-depth research is not the only lesson I am taking away from my time here at SCETV. I’m taking away stronger interviewing, video editing, and blogging skills that I can apply to future positions. Overall, I can say that I’m extremely happy for this internship experience. I did more in the last 10 weeks than I thought I could ever be able to do. Because of this summer experience, I’m more confident that I’m on the right path in pursuing a career in digital content production
