The SC Forestry Commission celebrated its 90th anniversary with a tree planting ceremony at the State House and announced the economic impact of the state's forestry industry. A Clemson University study found that the industry has a $21 billion impact on the state's economy and is number one in the manufacturing sector, in terms of jobs and labor income. The industry employs over 84,000 people. Other highlights of the study include:
- Forestry represents the number 1 harvested crop in the state.
- Forest products represent the number 1 export commodity from the Port of Charleston.
