The sound of buzzers fills ETV Carolinas’ Studio. Elementary school children anxiously chat amongst themselves, trying to decide on a correct answer, before having their team captain say it out loud. This is because, as Science Instructional Specialist of Rock Hill Schools Kimberly Massey says, “March Madness in Rock Hill means Science Bowl.” And, this March, ETV Carolinas is hosting the Rock Hill School District 3 Elementary School Science Bowl.
The Science Bowl is an annual event in which the smartest 5th-graders from each Rock Hill elementary school compete in a Jeopardy-style quiz show. At the end of the two-week-long tournament, one school is named the Elementary Science Bowl champion.
Kimberly Massey knows that the students enjoy this event. She says the “students look forward to this annual academic competition.” She adds that she is thankful to the coaches who help to make this event possible by “helping the students prepare.”
The Rock Hill School District 3 Elementary School Science Bowl will air on Comporium Channel 114, the Community Access Channel, in April.
