Thom Mayer
Thom Mayer is the chief human resources officer for South Carolina ETV and Public Radio and a member of the agency’s executive management team. In this role, he leads a team of human resources professionals who drive the agency’s commitment to be a great place to work by leading SCETV’s human resources strategy, talent acquisition, leadership development, organizational design, compensation and benefits, employee relations and people operations.
A thirty-year state employee, Mayer joined SCETV in 2021. Prior to joining SCETV he held leadership roles in economic development, youth/social services, higher education, and as a private consultant to non-profit boards and executive leadership teams in board development, strategic planning, and grant readiness in addition to several years working with Delta Airlines and in military service with the U.S. Army.
Mayer holds a bachelor’s degree in management and a master’s degree in project management and is a graduate of the South Carolina Executive Institute (2005) and is a Public Media Diversity Fellow with the Riley Institute at Furman University. Professionally, Mayer is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and serves on the conference planning committee of the Public Media Business Association (PMBA). On the community front, Mayer sits on the board of directors for Cooperative Health where he serves as Vice Chair and is a mentor with the United Way of the Midlands Youth Advisory Council.
