Keon Abbott

Wild Wild South - Director of Photography

Wild Wild South is very much a family affair with Hyatt’s partner Keon and brother Mason behind the cameras, following Hyatt into the wild and through the mosquito-infested waters to get the shots.

Keon Abbott is a Canadian cinematographer/producer who was raised in the industry working on a variety of documentaries and TV shows for major networks around the world. Due to film and TV being a family business, he’s been surrounded by production and cameras since diapers were his primary choice of fashion. Somewhere in a photo album there’s a print of 3-year-old Keon standing on a chair attempting to reach the B&W viewfinder of a (now prehistoric) Sony F600 Beta Cam.

Keon is used to pushing him and his camera through and to places this combo shouldn’t go, from frigid mountain tops and blistering deserts to claustrophobic caves and endlessly rough seas, he’s had an eye in a viewfinder in any ecosystem and situation you could put him in. Keon’s passion lies within the camera, whether it’s torture testing heavy anamorphic lenses while setting up a dolly in a gator filled swamp or artistically lighting a scene for a commercial in a comfortably air-conditioned studio. He enjoys breaking some of the common rules and norms of cinematography to add a unique and cinematic funk to his work.
