Sumter will be the next to receive a disaster recovery center from the Federal Emergency Management Agency according to Sumter county and city officials. The State reported that the center would be at the Sumter County Civic Center which is at 700 West Liberty St. in Sumter. It will open at 1 p.m. Friday, October 9th.
Officials said flood survivors will be able to apply to receive disaster-relief assistance, which can include money for temporary rental assistance and essential home repairs for primary homes, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help flood survivors.
People effected by the floods should register with FEMA online, at Disasterassistance.org. You can also register by phone at (800) 621-3362. For those who need help but are deaf or hard of hearing can call,(800)462-7578. The phone lines will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day of the week until further notice is given.
