Punch Needle Ornament Workshop with Local Artist Daisy McClellan
Join local artist Daisy McClellan on Sunday, Dec, 8 from 1:00 – 3:30 p.m. at the Charleston Museum for a special punch needle trivet workshop. Taking inspiration across the street from the Joseph Manigault House, which will be decorated for the holidays, students will have the opportunity to take a self-guided tour of the house before the workshop (admission to the Joseph Manigault House is included with registration fee).
Back at the museum, you’ll take all that inspiration and create a punch needle ornament perfect for your tree this Christmas. Daisy will teach you everything you need to know about this traditional rug making technique while giving it a modern and playful twist. Participants will learn about the best supplies to get started, how to thread a punch needle, stretch a frame, draw a design to fabric, how to punch, as well as various techniques for finishing your ornament.
Beginners are welcome – no experience is required however this is also a great class to build on if you have taken a previous punch needle class with Daisy. We will utilize a smaller punch needle, smaller weight yarn, and smaller hoop than used in her previous classes - providing new tools for your tool box. This class includes the materials listed below, which are needed during the workshop, and are yours to take home.
* #14 Fine Oxford Punch Needle * Premium wool rug yarn (in various colors) * Wool Backing Fabric * Morgan Non-Slip Hoop * Metal Snips * Water Soluble Marker * A guide to get you started on your punch needle journey
Reservations are required. Registration fee includes instruction, all materials and admission to the Joseph Manigault House. Classes with insufficient enrollment may be cancelled. Students will be notified in advance and full refunds or the opportunity to transfer to another workshop will be offered.
