The Upstate community is expected to have an increase of 160 jobs following Omron Automation’s relocation to the region.
According to a press release, the company has announced plans to lease and build out a 60,000-square-foot facility in the Greer area of Spartanburg County.
Omron Automation is a global industrial automation partner that creates, sells, and services fully integrated automation solutions that include sensing, control, safety, vision, motion, robotics, and more.
"We have conducted a thorough search of potential manufacturing locations and have selected a site that can best serve the future needs, competitive pricing, and expectations of our valued customers," said Mark Sadie, managing director at Omron Automation Americas.
Omron Automation manufactures heart and blood pressure monitors, EKG sensors, and other medical equipment.
Spartanburg County Councilman David Britt expressed excitement about the company arriving in the area.
"Omron Automation coming to Spartanburg County is personal to me," said Britt, "Health is very important to me — I have been a runner for 46 years, both my grandparents died at early ages. Omron brings a health-focused company to the Greer community."
Bitt has been a member of the Spartanburg County Council for 33 years and a part of the Economic Development Committee for 32. He sees the move by Omron as an investment in the Upstate's workforce.
“What they believe in is that the next generation of people won’t be defined by age, but we’re going to be defined by a world without heart attacks and strokes," Britt said. "Omron is committed to doing its part through technology, supporting personal fitness, heart health, healthy lungs, and just freedom from pain.”
The company is investing more than $9 million in capital investment over the next five years, with operations coming online in April.
The relocation is slated to happen by May of this year. At the facility, Omron will manufacture motion controllers and drives, machine vision, barcode readers, and verification systems.
“We are thrilled to establish our new location in Spartanburg County, expanding our market presence in the Southeast,” said Omron Automation Americas President and CEO Robb Black.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved the job development credited for this project and the council awarded Spartanburg County a $100,000 Set-Aside grant to help with the costs of building improvements.
