Winthrop/ETV Poll - August 2008

On Thursday, August 21 at 7:30 p.m., just prior to the opening of the Democratic Convention, “The Big Picture” presents the results from the latest Winthrop/ETV Poll. In groundbreaking style, the poll includes data from respondents in 11 Southern states on a vast array of topics, from which presidential candidate they favor, to their take on whether our country is on the right track; to whether a VP candidate from the South would influence their vote; to their beliefs about the environment and race relations.

The 11 states polled are Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Virginia, NC, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, Florida and South Carolina.

Democratic Convention

As the race for the White House heats up, The Big Picture travels with the South Carolina Delegation to Denver, Colorado for the official kick off to the 2008 Presidential election.

We will examine the role South Carolina plays on the convention and the upcoming election, talk with national political leaders and journalists about South Carolina’s impact, and speak to various members of the party and delegation about what this historic event means to them.

H.L. Hunley

It's been 8 years since the raising of the HL Hunley submarine off the coast of Charleston, SC. What has been happening in all those years?

The Big Picture met with leading scientists from around the world dedicated to preserving the Hunley and all the artifacts unveiled during the excavation. Not only that, but thanks to the newly formed Clemson Restoration Institute, the science that is being done in the lab may one day prevent the collapse of metal fatigued bridges, keep the hulls of ships clear of harmful mollusks and reveal other exciting advances.
