SCETV facilitates the U.S. voice in the global discussion about public television by managing the U.S. INPUT Secretariat and serving as the U.S. INPUT National Coordinator.
INPUT is dedicated to the proposition that television should be public service in the public interest. The access to the most honest, innovative, provocative, courageous and challenging broadcasting is a universal fundamental right. INPUT has organized international television's most important annual screening conference for more than 35 years. This unique event is held in a different country each year and encourages the development of public television around the world.
In 1984, SCETV hosted INPUT in Charleston and made a home for the U.S. INPUT Secretariat. Management of U.S. INPUT involves coordination of the U.S. INPUT national selection the fall prior to the annual May conference. A national panel of judges convenes in Charleston each year to select the most thought-provoking U.S. public television to move onto international selection. Program makers selected to screen work at INPUT are engaged in a debate with international producers from up to 50 countries. INPUT recognizes TV’s potential to promote better understanding among the world’s different cultures.
INPUT is not a film festival. It is a professional development opportunity for producers, directors, writers and all of those--including independent producers--who contribute to public television throughout the world. SCETV holds a "Best of INPUT" event for staff producers, local independent producers and area university students majoring in film and broadcasting.
