South Carolina State Library
ETV partners with the SC State Library to provide educational resources to K-12 teachers and students, and shares the mission of providing equal access to information for all South Carolinians. Both institutions believe in the value of collaboration, and that the best possible results are achieved through partnerships and teamwork. ETV’s StreamlineSC houses programs initiated by the State Library, such as Reading Rooster Recommends, with Helen Fellers from the South Carolina Center for Children’s Books & Literacy. In these videos, streamed on-demand in schools, Ms. Fellers reads entertaining selections for beginning readers and makes recommendations for children’s books.
Another successful collaboration is the State Library’s popular Web site, DISCUS—South Carolina’s Virtual Library, through which K-12 teachers and staff can search thousands of magazines, newspapers, and reference books, available 24/7. DISCUS is searchable through ETV’s OnePlaceSC, on which DISCUS and other valuable content assets are easily accessible on-demand. ETV also houses many of the DISCUS tutorial videos, for use by teachers and media specialists, in StreamlineSC.
The State Library is also a principal member of the K-12 Technology Committee; along with ETV, State Library helps to provide valuable Internet bandwidth and content for all K-12 schools and local libraries statewide.
