MUSC Public Information and Community Outreach
Medical University of South Carolina Public Information and Community Outreach (PICO) provides programmatic and technical support to communities seeking to address a wide range of health-related issues. In many instances, PICO assists communities in facilitating the kind of unique partnerships needed to leverage limited resources into effective programs. PICO's long-time partnership with South Carolina Educational Television (ETV) has yielded dozens of programs for statewide and national distribution, including the Our Health Series of in-depth dialogues on issues and conditions prevalent in our state and of particular interest to minority populations.
Ongoing PICO projects include Community Leaders Institutes, Technical Assistance Workshops, the Securing Our Future Series on energy independence, and the Fifth Annual National Conference on Health Disparities. All PICO programs recognize and build upon the unique relationship between human health, environmental quality, environmental justice and economic development.
