September’s NEW edition of In Our Schools, a series produced by the SC Department of Education’s eMedia with South Carolina ETV, features two schools that have both improved the academic performance of their students and been recognized for reducing the achievement gaps among many types of students.

Cherokee Trail Elementary School is located in the rural Abbeville County town of Donalds. This Palmetto Gold School was recognized for excellent academic performance for both elementary and middle grades because they serve Pre-K through 7th grade students. Their success is a result of strong leadership, dedicated and hardworking faculty, and a supportive community.

Macedonia Middle School is located in the Berkeley County town of Moncks Corner and serves grades 6 to 8. Despite serving a high-poverty community, the school has made steady improvement and Macedonia’s principal was named Berkeley County’s First Principal of the Year! Macedonia’s commitment and dedication of the faculty, along with the relentless pursuit of quality instruction in every classroom, have proved to be crucial factors in improving academic achievement.
