Comprehensive Health Education (CHE) Act Overview
Aaron Bryan, with SC Healthy Schools at the SC Department of Education, will provide an overview of the Comprehensive Health Education Act (CHE), which is the law that requires sexual risk reduction education for middle and high school students. The CHE Act also requires districts to maintain a local Comprehensive Health Education Advisory Committee comprised of students, teachers, health professionals, clergy, parents, and community members with the responsibility of reviewing and approving all sexual risk reduction materials before they are used in schools. This overview will enhance the ability of superintendents, district-level Health Education Coordinators, principals, and teachers to maintain compliance with the SC Comprehensive Health Education Act.
