The latest Winthrop Poll (http://www.winthrop.edu/winthroppoll/default.aspx?id=9804) was published this morning, and with a little more than a month to the general election, Governor Nikki Haley is leading Democratic challenger and State Senator Vincent Sheheen by a 43.6% – 33.6% margin. Petition candidate Tom Irvin received less than 4%.
In the race for U.S. Senate, Tim Scott, who was appointed by Gov. Haley to replace Jim DeMint, is running in his first statewide election, and has a majority of the votes with 52.4%. Democratic challenger Joyce Dickerson is receiving 31.8%, while American Party candidate Jill Bossi received less than 2%.
After a primary where he faced 6 other candidates, Republican Incumbent Lindsey Graham is leading Democratic State Senator Brad Hutto by a margin of 46.3% to 28%. Former S.C. treasurer and petition candidate Thomas Ravenel has 8% of the vote.
Other issues that are looked at in this poll include the economy, electing the State Superintendent of Education, and legalizing casino boats.
