Charter School Has Special Place in Family’s Heart
Since 2014, a charter school in Charleston has been using telehealth to care for students with multiple disabilities.
Using a computer camera and digital tools, the school nurse Courtenay Read is able to conduct real-time consults with physicians at the Medical University of South Carolina. The virtual consult requires parental consent to be given beforehand, and parents are invited to participate in the appointment. Follow-up notes are sent to the child’s primary care provider for their records and further coordination of care.
