South Carolina Public Radio Wins Awards for “Song Travels”

South Carolina Public Radio’s production Song Travels has been recognized by the industry. Two episodes—with guests José James and Barbara Carroll—have won an Award of Distinction in the 22nd Annual Communicator Awards, which honors creative excellence for communications professionals.

This month ETV partners with the SC Humanities and USC to bring viewers three specials spotlighting Pulitzer Prize winners from South Carolina. The first program focuses on commentary with Washington Post columnists Kathleen Parker and Jim Hoagland; the second looks at journalism with writers from the Charleston Post and Courier; and the third highlights novelist and South Carolinian Julia Peterkin.

“A Chef’s Life” Host Vivian Howard Wins James Beard Award

SCETV’s Vivian Howard of “A Chef’s Life” has won Outstanding Personality/Host in the 2016 James Beard Foundation awards.  The TV series follows Howard as she searches for Southern family recipes and heirloom foods to use in new ways for the two restaurants she runs with husband Ben in Kinston, N.C.   Directed by Cynthia Hill, the Peabody and Emmy-winning program is presented nationally by SCETV and is in production for its fourth season on PBS. 

ETV Announces South Carolina Teacher as a Member of the 2016 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovators Program

South Carolina ETV announced Carla Jefferson from Darlington County School District as one of this year’s PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovators. The program, which is in its fourth year, recognizes tech-savvy K-12 educators who are serving as leaders in the education technology space and incorporating digital media in classrooms. Jefferson is one of 52 Lead Digital Innovators in the U.S. and its territories.

National Create Cooking Challenge Selects Local Winner

Columbia – American Public Television (APT), the original home to television’s culinary experts, and sponsor of  the Create Cooking Challenge, announced today that two new “stars” have joined its ranks.  Selected from hundreds of entries by judges who are some of public television’s best known chefs, Jaime Isobe of Brooklyn, NY, is the Grand Prize Winner, receiving $1,000 to finance the completion of a 10-episode web series for CreateTV.com.  Second Prize Winner, Erin French of Freedom, Maine, was awarded $250 to fund a 3-part web series for Create’s website.  The contest f

The Mayor: Age of Riley, directed by Barbara Tranter and produced by Jennet Robinson Alterman, follows the career of Charleston Mayor Joe Riley’s remarkable four decade tenure.  The film, four years in the making, features interviews with Mayor Riley and those who found favor (and disfavor) with his vision for the city.  It premieres Thursday, April 14 at 8:00 p.m. on SCETV with re-broadcasts Sunday, April 17 at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 24 at 6:00 p.m.
