U.S. Congressional District 5 Special Election

U.S Congressional District 5

Since U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney was appointed to be the White House Budget Director, South Carolina's District 5 will be voting for a new representative in Congress. In an effort to inform the District 5 voters about the candidates running, South Carolina ETV has invited those candidates to ETV Carolinas in Rock Hill to give them a chance to let voters know where they stand on the issues.

ETV Carolinas Hosts Science Bowl

The sound of buzzers fills ETV Carolinas’ Studio. Elementary school children anxiously chat amongst themselves, trying to decide on a correct answer, before having their team captain say it out loud. This is because, as Science Instructional Specialist of Rock Hill Schools Kimberly Massey says, “March Madness in Rock Hill means Science Bowl.” And, this March, ETV Carolinas is hosting the Rock Hill School District 3 Elementary School Science Bowl.

Legacy Charter Students Using a DSLR

High school students bustled around their DSLR cameras, taking turns looking through the preview monitors and wondering out-loud questions like, “Why does it look so dark?” and “So, do I adjust the ISO or aperture first?” With hands-on experience, along with the suggestions of their peers (and the help of their instructors), these students were able to figure out the answers to these questions and discover the ins and outs of DSLR manual settings.

The smell of gunfire filled the air as rifles fired between Revolutionary War militia and British regulars in the woods at Historic Brattonsville last Saturday. 

Perfect weather greeted the SCETV crew from Spartanburg and Columbia for their final location day for the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution project.  Reenactors from South and North Carolina came to Historic Brattonsville  to recreate several key scenes related to Kings Mountain and other stories of the Southern Campaign.

It is a brisk day in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina, as Robert Ryals adds the finishing touches to his Revolutionary War Continental Soldier ensemble. He slings his Continental Soldier cartridge box over his shoulder, adjusts his microphone, and he is ready to begin. Robert Ryals is the tour guide and co-owner of Walkin' Talkin' Tours, which he owns with his wife, Sharon Ryals.

To examine the experiences of immigrants in the U.S., Student Reporting Labs asked students to find stories in their own community that reflect the diversity that makes this country great. This created the #NewAmericans series, which focuses on the stories of immigration, identity and community through the eyes of teenagers.
