Karen Martin was appointed as an SCETV Commissioner by Governor Nikki Haley in 2011. She is active in her home county of Spartanburg, holding the position of Campaign Chair of the Greenville/Spartanburg Republican Women's Club, regularly attending County Council meetings, and is the organizer of the Spartanburg Tea Party. Karen has been appointed to the SCGOP Platform Committee and the Convention Committee by SCGOP Chairman Matt Moore.
Karen is an editor, working for more than 20 years in the management training industry. She works with both sizeable, global companies and sole proprietorships.
Karen earned a degree in Substance Abuse Counseling from Salem State Community College in Massachusetts.
From 1999 until 2006 she volunteered for Animal Allies, a high-quality/high-volume spay/neuter clinic in Spartanburg, serving as Event and Volunteer Coordinator, Vice President, and President. Animal Allies began as a 3-person, entrepreneurial vision to lower intake/euthanasia at the Spartanburg County Humane Society. They began by facilitating 144 surgeries in 1999 and have now performed more than 70,000 surgeries, offering services to 7 SC counties. The organization now exists as a standalone clinic, employing a staff of 13, and providing training to other organizations.
